High school jazz ensemble
enters “Battle of the Bands”

Two of the top high school jazz band in the United States will be performing a joint concert – The Dillard Center for the Arts High School, under the direction of Chris Dorsey and New World School of the Arts High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Peter Francis. This is “round two” of an old fashioned “Battle of the Bands.” The first was held in Miami in October, this Sunday’s concert will be in Broward. The Dillard Center for the Arts in Ft. Lauderdale was awarded the 1st place honors at the Essentially Ellington in May of 2011, with New World bringing home the fourth place honors. The music of Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, and John Clayton will be performed, by both bands – some of South Florida’s most talented young musicians.
