Transit Lounge announced via a press release on Facebook that it will close at the end of June. It later said through Twitter that “we are opening a new venue, Avenue D, downtown this summer. More information to be released shortly!” Here’s stuff from the press release :
MIAMI, FL (April 20, 2011) — Pioneering music venue, Transit Lounge, will be closing its doors permanently a the end of June. Due to the current economic climate, the landlords of the Transit Lounge Building have gone into foreclosure and the building will be taken by the bank in June.
William Edwards, the owner of Transit Lounge states: “I am deeply saddened that it has come down to this. We fought a good fight but the banks just aren’t lending and the landlords did the best they could but the writing is on the wall. We hope to celebrate nearly a decade of Transit Lounge with the biggest events and parties that Transit has ever hosted and look forward to a thriving live music culture in Miami.”
Transit Lounge will continue with normal business hours and plans to throw a series of concerts and events for the next few months. National and local acts will be featured and the lineup will be updated on the Transit Lounge website as new artists are announced.
To celebrate almost a decade of live music and entertainment, Transit Lounge will be hosting an event at the end of June, 2011 to say goodbye to their loyal customers and showcase local bands that have made the club a success over the years. Transit Lounge would like to thank every patron, musician, and artist that has supported the venue and hopes to see them all in the next few months as they party until the very last beer is sold.
