In 1982, the first Books & Books was founded in Coral Gables (the “City Beautiful”) by Mitchell Kaplan. Currently housed in a 1927 building listed in the Coral Gables Register of Historic places, Books & Books sprouted six others—in Miami Beach, Bal Harbour, Westhampton Beach, Grand Cayman, Miami International Airport, and Museum of Art Ft. Lauderdale. As we are about live music, we will tear ourselves from the books and dwell instead on the open-air courtyard, full-service cafe and live music on Fridays and Saturdays. Ana said, “ . . . the open air and the marvelous weather make everything better . . . Hugo had a grilled turkey sandwich and I had a prosciutto panini . . . I asked to change the type of cheese and they graciously did . . . the music was glorious . . . ”
